About the Book
When her parents leave town without warning, Mabel isn't worried. They're spies, after all. But when her beloved Aunt Gertie is arrested for leading a smuggling ring, then her obnoxious Uncle Frank and Aunt Stella show up, demanding to be let into the family's private museum . . . things begin to look fishy. Especially since Mabel hasn’t heard from her parents in days. Tackling a mystery like this one is what she has been training for her whole, short life. Using her self-authored spy handbook, will Mabel be able to find her parents and unmask the real criminal before it's too late? Rife with quirky characters, zany twists, and an unflinching look at the difficulty of learning to trust, Amanda Hosch's debut is sure to capture the hearts of secret-keepers, sleuths, and everyone in between.

Set in the foothills of Mt. Rainier National Park, Mabel Opal Pear uses the mountain itself, its natural scenery, Stanley’s wildlife knowledge, and Mabel’s American history knowledge to drive the plot.MOP is for anyone who loves adventure, has a hard time making friends and has to deal with the weight of secret keeping. (The book's first person narration and fast-paced plot will keep readers engaged and makes a great read aloud.)

Author Amanda Hosch loves writing, travel, and coffee. She lived abroad for almost a decade, teaching English as a Foreign Language. A fifth generation New Orleanian, Amanda now lives in Seattle with her husband, their two daughters, and a ghost cat. She says: "I've loved mystery and detective stories since childhood. I tore through my mom’s Agatha Christies before I graduated from grammar school. The main character of Mabel came about first as her nickname Moppet. I knew that her parents were top secret agents and that she knew their secret. It took a while to find a place for her to live, but one summer we’d spent many weekends hiking on Mt. Rainier and the setting just sort of came to me. The Rules that Mabel uses are adapted from The Moscow Rules. I can’t even remember when I first learned about them, but once I formulated new ones from Moppet’s POV, it gave me a hook to write the book on."

My Take on the Book
This was a great book that brought in some mystery, some adventure and a lot of fun! I, for one, loved the characters in this story. Not only do you have Mabel, but you also are introduced to some characters that you will not forget. I also loved that this was set around Mt. Ranier. I am a BIG fan of this area of the country and this book really captured the essence of the area too. The book also had a ton of twists and turns that I was not expecting that made the story even more enjoyable. This is a book that kept me reading from beginning to end!
