About the Book
Award-winning performing artist and conflict specialist Dana Caspersen is the author of CHANGING THECONVERSATION: The 17 Principles of Conflict Resolution, a new guide for moving past the destructive and often endless cycle of attack and counter-attack when facing a conflict (A Penguin Original; On sale: January 27, 2015). Packaged by Joost Elffers, the book presents information in a uniquely visual and eye-catching format.

Whether it’s with a romantic partner, our children, friends, or family, we often default to ineffective and destructive behavior when facing a conflict. CHANGING THE CONVERSATION presents 17 principles (constructive behavior) and 17 anti-principles (destructive behavior) to help identify and avoid damaging patterns and instead get to the root of the problem to promote communication and understanding.

Filled with everyday examples and opportunities for practice, it’s the perfect book for those hoping to make lasting and meaningful changes to their relationships in the new year.

Biography
Dana Caspersen is a conflict specialist, author, and performing artist. Her work focuses on empowering people to transform conflict from the inside: changing the conversation by changing their own actions and approach.

As an award-winning creator and performer with the Ballet Frankfurt and the Forsythe Company since 1988, Caspersen has developed choreographic work, films, installations, stage texts and 30 years of iconic roles in the oeuvre of choreographer William Forsythe. She has been a primary collaborator of Forsythe's in creations ranging from inventing the world's largest bouncy castle for Art Angel in London, to the development of internationally acclaimed works for the stage.

In the field of conflict, Caspersen works as a mediator, coach, teacher, and public dialogue designer. Since receiving a master's degree in Conflict Studies and Mediation from the Woodbury Institute at Champlain College, she has created events and projects that bridge her experience as a performing artist and a conflict specialist-using theatrical and choreographic thinking to enable communication in situations of conflict. These projects range from choreographic public dialogues to films to her upcoming book: Changing the Conversation: The 17 Principles of Conflict Resolution, and are being carried out in cooperation with communities, art institutions, universities, social action groups, conflict workers, artists, and other individuals throughout the world.

Caspersen has received a Bessie Award for Outstanding Creative Achievement in New York, was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Dance Achievement in London.

She lives in Frankfurt and Vermont.

My Take on the Book
I am always looking for books that will help me in my professional practice. In what I do I am always working on conflict resolution, so this book definitely was one that looked intriguing. I loved how the book was set up, as it truly walks you through the steps that you need to follow as you prepare to resolve conflicts in your professional or personal life. Each page was practical and used real life examples to help you see how you can work through situations that will ultimately come up and that will need to be dealt with. This was a powerful book that truly provides the reader with a ton of resources to draw from. I for one would highly recommend this to all!
