Book Review - Joe the Monkey Learns to Share

About the Book
Joe the Monkey can't figure out what to do with his Share jar. When Joe the Monkey makes a big mistake and spends his Share jar money, will his friends help him figure out what to do? Or will he follow his friend Vargas' advice? Find out if a special charity can find Joe in time for him to make the right choice. Parents... My first book helped kids learn the importance of saving for a goal. Again inspired by my kids, this one will help you help them figure out how and where to use the money they accumulate in their own Share jars.

My Take on the Book
John Lanza's concept of teaching children the importance of not only saving their money for a specific goal, but to also put aside money to share is illustrated beautifully in this story. If you give your child an allowance each week, have you included a discussion pertaining to how they should become responsible with their money?

In John's book, your child will have an opportunity to watch Joe the Monkey. Joe has many decisions to make with respect to the money he receives and saves. The story is a good avenue to discuss the concept of a "sharing jar". It is money a child donates to a local charity. Once you read the story you could brainstorm with your child ideas for contributing the money in the "sharing jar".

I believe you will find this book a useful resource for your family
