CD Review - Chris August: The Upside of Down

About the CD
April 25, 2012 marked a day that the phenomenally talented artist Chris August will never forget…and may also not remember too well. While skateboarding down a street he had ridden hundreds of times, Chris slid through a patch of gravel in an unmarked construction site, resulting in a blow to the head that would land him in the ICU with an extremely severe subdural hemorrhage – a bruised, bleeding, and swelling brain – which would take a very serious surgery to overcome. Thankfully, Chris skirted the surgery and was allowed to return home shortly after to recover.

Chris recently released his new album, The Upside of Down, on August 21, 2012, less than four months after his accident. The title parallels his journey and the humbling healing process over the last several months, and the songs reflect just that as well – the drive to transform the hurting times into good.

Chris hopes the album allows reaches many people in order to encourage them to take nothing for granted and to live for something greater than themselves. Lead single from the album, the powerful “Center of It”, already reigns in the Top 20 after only a few weeks on the charts.

My Take on the CD
I have to say that I have enjoyed Chris August's music from the very first song that I heard from him, and this CD is even better. This CD gets down to some of the strong roots of what God means and what he does for all of us on a daily basis, and it is through these songs that Chris August brings his listeners to a new level of understanding of their own beliefs. The songs are uplifting and inspirational and serve as reminders of what is truly important when the days get hectic, providing the listener a needed perspective check. The songs have strong messages that anyone can relate to. If you enjoy music with strong underlying lyrics and music that will not soon leave your mind, look no further than this album!
