Foodiacs, Presents Back to the Roots

As teachers begin to write lesson plans, they often look for new and creative teaching methods. This year teachers, students and parents alike can go back to school with Back to the Roots, a grow-it-yourself box garden of pearl oyster mushrooms.

The kit allows anyone – no matter their cooking and gardening level - to grow up to 1 1/2 pounds of gourmet oyster mushrooms in as little as 10 days. The mushrooms are grown entirely on recycled coffee grounds, which has allowed Back to the Roots to reuse nearly 1 million pounds of coffee grounds.

When purchased through the new online food community www.foodiacs.com, teachers also receive a classroom curriculum, which includes a worksheet on recycling and sustainability.

Back to the Roots is the first product to be featured on Foodiacs. The event will run from September 6 at 12:00 p.m. ET - September 20 at 11:59 a.m. ET. Three boxes of Back to the Roots can be purchased for $40 (a 33% savings). The next product to be featured is a set of southern artisan jams.

My Take on the Product
I was excited to try out this product as my family uses mushrooms in a lot of dishes and the idea of growing our own was appealing. This product was so easy to use and it does actually grow the amount of mushrooms that they say they will. The mushrooms are tasty and I also loved the fact that after you are done with one side, you can turn the product around and grow from the other side as well, thus giving you a ton of opportunities for fresh mushroom action! If you love mushrooms, this is a fun and educational way to help your kids learn about nature and growing food also!
